Portsmouth Teen Counseling
Adolescence is a difficult time of self-exploration. Paired with the societal pressures of friendships, future planning, and independence teens can feel overwhelmed. We have had great success with breaking down tasks and ideas into manageable pieces decreasing the stress and anxiety that is common in this age group.
Teens often find comfort discussing issues with objective people. Using a Rogerian, or Person Centered Approach, teens can take the lead in processing issues that they are having. Teens respond well to the non-authoritative approach that our clinicians take, leading to deeper work with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
Many teens also experience intense feelings that lead to self-harm, or self destructive behavior patterns. Self-harm can be scary for families to endure but there are proven techniques to assist with decreasing and ceasing these behaviors.
